About Opal Charters

A Bespoke Chauffeured Experience, Led by True Locals

Founded in 2006, Opal Charters is a proudly Christchurch-based, locally owned company offering premium chauffeured travel across the South Island. Specialising in first-class journeys, we operate a fleet of luxury European vehicles known for their safety, style, and comfort — all tailored to your individual needs.

Our professional local driver-guides are not just chauffeurs — they’re passionate hosts with generations of connection to this region. Whether you need a seamless airport or private jet transfer, a bespoke day excursion, or a multi-day private tour, you’ll enjoy a stress-free, personalised experience every step of the way.

Our Premium Fleet

The right vehicle to match your preferences.

At Opal Charters, our carefully selected fleet ensures every journey is delivered with comfort, safety, and style. Our vehicles include the Mazda CX-90 and Skoda Superb PHEV for private travel with up to three passengers — ideal for executive transfers or intimate tours. For families or small groups, the spacious Mercedes V-Class offers luxury seating for up to six passengers. Larger groups can travel with ease in our Volkswagen Crafter coach, which accommodates up to 11 passengers and includes a separate luggage compartment for added convenience. No matter the group size or destination, our fleet is equipped to deliver a premium travel experience throughout the South Island.

More Than Just a Ride

We’re Your Local Experts

Our driver-guides are frequently on the road throughout the South Island. Take advantage of their deep local knowledge and extensive network — we’re happy to assist with itinerary planning, accommodation recommendations, and activity bookings to enhance your journey.

Led by a team of 4th and 5th generation locals with backgrounds in both professional and tourism industries, we’re proud to offer a level of insight, care, and hospitality that’s uniquely Opal Charters — and still personally managed by the founders today.
